The Rev'd Paul G. Rider was born in New York, but raised in Texas and Arkansas. He received his B.M. and M.M. degrees in trombone performance from the University of Arkansas and taught in the Music Department at South Dakota State University in Brookings.
After attending seminary in Wisconsin, Paul served congregations in South and North Dakota before coming to the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota in the winter of 2000. He has been serving St. John's Parish since 2002.
Paul has been a priest in the Church over twenty years and especially enjoys his time teaching Bible classes, preaching, and working on issues of social/economic justice. In his free time he enjoys hiking, riding his bike, and watching the Arkansas Razorbacks with his companion bird, Togo, a Senegal Parrot. His website, "The Smiling Heretic" may be found here.
