Great Britain is gearing up for a packed season of international speedway, with exciting opportunities announced for young riders across multiple FIM and FIME events! This news is a significant boost for aspiring speedway stars in the UK, offering them a chance to compete on the world stage.
The SGP2 (World Under-21) series is set to feature four talented Great Britain riders in its qualifying rounds this year. These promising talents will be spread across different venues, with two riders heading to Fjelsted, Denmark, on June 27. On the very same day, one rider each will compete in Krsko, Slovenia, and Pardubice, Czech Republic. It's worth remembering that last season saw the likes of Dan Thompson and Jake Mulford making their mark in the SGP2 series, so there's certainly a precedent for success!
But here's where it gets even more exciting: Great Britain will also be represented in the FIM Speedway of Nations 2, which is taking place in Prague on May 22. This is a fantastic opportunity for our teams to showcase their skills in a major international competition.
For the younger contingent, Pardubice will host the SGP3 qualifiers on June 13. Three GB riders are slated to participate, all with their eyes firmly set on securing a spot in the prestigious Final at Wroclaw. And that's not all – one GB rider will also be competing in the SGP4 Final, held in Malilla, Sweden, on June 11. It's a testament to the growing talent pool in the UK!
At the Under-19 level, Great Britain will field two riders in Plzen, Czech Republic, and one in Debrecen, Hungary, on June 20 for the European Under-19 Qualifiers. Furthermore, two GB riders are set to battle it out in the European 250cc Qualifier at Zarnovica, Slovakia, on August 1. These events are crucial stepping stones for these young athletes.
And this is the part most people miss: The FIM and FIME 125cc Gold Trophy and Track Racing Cup is coming to Workington on August 8/9. Great Britain has been allocated two direct places and two reserve spots in each of these significant events. This means more opportunities for our riders to gain invaluable experience and potentially claim top honors.
Meanwhile, the international spotlight also shines on the women's category. The Women’s Gold Trophy and World Cup will be held in Gorican, Croatia, on July 4. Great Britain will be sending a strong contingent, with one 500cc rider and one 250cc rider ready to compete.
What do you think about these allocations? Are there any particular riders you're excited to see compete? Let us know in the comments below – we'd love to hear your thoughts!
