OP-ED Mariners Offseason Wishlist: Rebuilding with Westburg, Tucker, and Santana? (2026)

I'm taking the reins and sharing my vision for the Mariners' future! With Jorge Polanco's signing, it's time to rethink the team's strategy. Let's dive into my ideal roster moves.

The Core Remains Intact
Our starting lineup boasts some undeniable stars: Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, and JP Crawford. And with Josh Naylor's recent five-year contract, he's here to stay too. But there's room for improvement.

Infield Shakeup
The infield needs a boost. Trading for a second baseman or third baseman is a must. I'd target Jordan Westburg from the Orioles. He's younger, more affordable, and has All-Star potential. To acquire him, I'd part with starting pitcher Luis Castillo. It's a win-win, saving money and strengthening the lineup.

Swinging for the Fences
In the outfield, we need a right fielder. But why not aim high? I'd sign Kyle Tucker, a true superstar. His World Series experience and impact would elevate our team. With Tucker, Raleigh, and Rodriguez, we'd have the league's best 'big 3'.

Veteran Presence at DH
The DH spot needs an upgrade. Dominic Canzone and Luke Raley won't cut it if we're aiming for the World Series. I'd bring in Carlos Santana, an affordable veteran with a solid 1.1 bWAR in 2025. His relationship with Julio Rodriguez is an added bonus.

The New Look Mariners
With these moves, our roster transforms. Julio Rodriguez, Kyle Tucker, Randy Arozarena, Josh Naylor, JP Crawford, Jordan Westburg, Cal Raleigh, and Carlos Santana form a formidable core. The bench includes Victor Robles, Dom Canzone, Leo Rivas, and Luke Raley. Our starting pitchers remain strong with Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, Emerson Hancock, and Logan Evans.

This team is a force to be reckoned with, even without Luis Castillo. But here's where it gets controversial... Do you agree with my assessment? Should the Mariners make these moves? Let's discuss in the comments!
