In the world of music, rivalries and strong opinions are nothing new. But when it comes to the upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, an interesting dynamic is brewing between two iconic acts: Phil Collins and Oasis.
The story takes us back to the '90s, when Noel Gallagher, the outspoken frontman of Oasis, famously labeled Collins as "the antichrist of music." This comment, coupled with a rather chilling threat to have Collins' "severed head in my fridge," sparked a memorable feud.
Fast forward to the present, and both acts are set to be inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame. Phil Collins, reflecting on this incident, reveals an intriguing theory about why Noel might have made such a statement.
"I reckon it was the song 'Mama' that triggered Noel's comment," Collins suggests. "The light under my face and my 'Ha-ha-ha... Oww' might have given him that idea. But I'm not taking it personally; I think he was just having a laugh."
However, Collins' youngest daughter, Lily, seems to have taken the matter more seriously. During a chance encounter with Liam Gallagher backstage at a charity concert, she confronted him about his father's perceived hatred. Liam's response? "I don't hate anybody, love."
Despite this, Collins believes that Noel's comment might have had more to do with his own experience at a Genesis concert in the '80s, where he admitted to being "completely out of it."
"It's all about perspective," Collins muses. "To some, I'm just the ballad guy, but my musical journey has been far more diverse than that."
As the induction ceremony approaches, Collins expresses curiosity about the potential encounter with the Gallagher brothers. "The inductees' lunch will be an interesting affair," he says.
