At CES 2026, Samsung unveiled a revolutionary display technology, dubbed 'Advanced Crease-less'. This new display, briefly showcased, revealed a significant improvement in the crease issue compared to its current Galaxy Z Fold 7. The tech world is abuzz with rumors of its debut in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 or even Apple's highly anticipated foldable iPhone.
The secret behind this innovation? A strategic weakening of the backplate. Samsung has introduced perforated holes, allowing the backplate to flex and distribute the stress of folding, preventing it from concentrating at the center. But there's more to this story.
A Korean publication, Dealsite, provides further insight. Samsung is said to be employing a laser drilling process on the backplate to disperse stress. But the real game-changer might be the addition of a second layer of ultra-thin glass (UTG). This could be a significant upgrade, as the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 already uses UTG beneath a plastic protective layer.
By adding another layer of UTG on top of the backplate, Samsung aims to further enhance the display's uniformity and reduce wrinkles. Although it's unclear if this was part of the CES demo, it's an intriguing prospect. The initial introduction of UTG improved the display quality, so this new dual-layer approach could be a significant advancement.
