A festive transformation has brightened Dunchurch, the Warwickshire village, as its annual statue makeover returns for the season. Each year, the Lord John Scott statue is discreetly dressed for Christmas, a practice with roots that reach back many decades. The person behind the decorations remains the village’s “best-kept secret,” with plenty of local speculation but no confirmation.
This year's rendition reimagines the statue as Chase, the German Shepherd from the beloved children’s show Paw Patrol, whose catchphrase is “Chase is on the case.” A cardboard sign on the statue’s base proclaims: “Chase is on the Christmas Case.”
Amber Cumming, a resident, expressed particular happiness about the choice, noting that Paw Patrol is her three-year-old son’s favorite program. She added that the annual reveal builds anticipation as Christmas approaches and that the dressed statue strengthens community bonds, with both children and adults sharing in the excitement.
In prior years, the statue has taken on a variety of other personas, including Bluey, Pinocchio, Pingu, and Peppa Pig. It has even been transformed into a World War II soldier in May to commemorate Victory in Europe Day.
